Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is attending the 2nd Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting that is underway in Siem Reap, Cambodia, and has emphasized that the meeting promotes regional integration.

Wang Yi said at the opening ceremony that he believes this meeting will provide an excellent opportunity to review the progress made, as well as to exchange views on the future direction of cooperation following the first Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Leaders' Meeting in March.

"Over the past half year, China and Mekong countries have gradually implemented the consensus that was reached by the six countries' leaders; every day has new progress," said the Foreign Minister.

He also stressed that all countries must strengthen regional cooperation to seize opportunities and meet challenges together so as to promote peace, development and prosperity.

The six countries along the Mekong-Lancang River launched the MLC in 2015. Five priority areas under the MLC include connectivity, production capacity, cross-border economic cooperation, water resources, and agriculture as well as poverty reduction.
