Fire, explosion casualties down in Vietnam in Q1

HO CHI MINH CITY, March 31 (Xinhua) -- A total of 957 fires and explosions occurred in Vietnam in the first quarter of this year, killing 30 people and injuring 57 others.

The fires and explosions also caused property losses of more than 154 billion Vietnamese dong (roughly 6.7 million U.S. dollars), the country's Fire Prevention and Fight Department said on Sunday.

Vietnam experienced 1,085 fires and explosions in the first quarter of last year, which left 33 people dead and 66 others injured, and caused losses of 413.2 billion Vietnamese dong (nearly 18 million U.S. dollars).

According to the department, in 2018, Vietnam saw 4,075 fires and explosions which killed 112 people, injured 263 others, and caused property losses of some 1,700 billion Vietnamese dong (73.9 million U.S. dollars).
